Not only did the author, Martha A. Taylor attack a controversial subject, she supplied a side to the history of America that really needed to be told and did a fantastic job.

The story focuses around a young white girl named Martha living in the deep south in 1956 who discovered a primitive Negro family living deep in the woods near her childhood home. In that time period there were extremely intense negative racial sentiments.

The book gives you a history lesson of the Civil Rights Movement while telling the story of Martha, her natural curiosity and generous heart. Martha became a part of Lucy's family. Even when she moved away to Texas, she continued to be in contact with the family and visited whenever possible.

This is a moving story that everyone should take a close look at, regardless of era or color. You will be very touched and moved by the story telling. It will become a story that touches your heart and stays with you. It is also a book that you will not want to put down.

In Bader Field, Carl David portrays a beautiful story speaking about the love and inspiration he received from his father who passed on when Carl was only 24 years old. It is an emotional story of the trials and difficulties to continue even when the going is rough and one thinks he cannot go forward.

Sam David, Carl's father was an extraordinary individual who was not only an inspiration to his family and children but also in the art world. It was an honor to meet Sam David in this memoir.

Sam David guided Carl in his young life and gave him elemental tools to use. The tools and the guidance are what have helped Carl to get through the loss of his father, to hold the family together, bring up his children and continue to make the family art business thrive.

With Bader Field, Carl David has given the readers lessons, wisdom and the elemental tools for life survival and shared them with his readers. It's a good book to read.

If you are a person that didn't like studying history in school, like myself, you will be in for a surprise when you read this book. One would think that a book that was set in the time period of 1881 would be dry and boring however you will find that this is a page turning, highly entertaining and fun book to read in which you learn about the history of the time period.

I couldn't put this book down! I am now a fan of Shirley A. Roe and cannot wait to read more of her works. The characters come alive as does the time period.

The Whittaker family has been through so much already, put the terrible times behind them and are now flourishing. A troublesome, very spoiled girl and a person bent on vengeance wreck havoc for the family. And, then you are left with questions unanswered and wanting more.

You really do need to read this book!
